Empowering Infection Control
The Philippine Hospital Infection Control Society (PHICS) successfully completed its 13th
Annual Convention on May 24-25, 2007 at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSCH),
in North Avenue, Quezon City. With this year's theme of "Empowering Infection Control",
the scientific event tackled various important problems on infection control and effectively
leaped above the identified obstacles in pursuit of achieving its major task of quality
healthcare and patient safety.
Empowering infection control is an excellent opportunity to plan and develop effective
infection control programs that would target potential predicaments in the future.
Dr. Criselda Abesamis delivered the Keynote Address, emphasizing the need for infection
control standards, on the implementation of various activities and programs related to
infection control, with the goal of patient safety, while continuously providing quality
healthcare. During the 2-day convention, the invited faculty and several experts shared
their experience and gave practical guides, providing better means of achieving a successful
implementation of infection control activities. In addition, updates on emerging and
re-emerging infections were discussed.
Integrating the old, reliable concepts with innovative practices would make our tasks a lot
simpler, and could ultimately lead to achieving our goal of keeping the healthcare facility
safe for patients and healthcare workers.
